Fan Fret OM Guitar – 2023
A very special 12 fret guitar with an amazing tone. Why fan fret? Like on a piano, longer bass strings and shorter treble strings sound best. Many think that a fan fret guitar must be difficult to play. It is actually more comfortable to play that the standard, single scale length guitar. The angle of the frets follows the angle of your index finger as you move your hand up and down the neck. The neck feels like a natural extension of your hand. Ready to deliver. Shipping available.

Falcate Bracing system
Falcate means sickle shaped. The braces are made from Sitka Spruce and are bent to form the shapes shown below. Sounds waves are not straight so why should the braces be straight? Beyond just bending the braces, I also carve them to achieve the ideal combination of resonant frequencies. It is important that the final resonant frequencies fall between notes on the musical scale. If this is not done, it could cause wolf tones. Wolf tones are a note that is either louder than the others, sometimes squawky, or the note could be really quiet and dead sounding. There are no wolf tones on this guitar. This type of bracing opens up the sound to deliver a fuller, more complex sound that is nothing short of amazing. Adding the small of carbon fiber allows me to make the braces even lighter than usual. This has the benefit of more volume and sustain. This is a very responsive guitar. Play it soft or play it loud. You gotta hear this guitar!
Resonant frequncies
- Air chamber frequency: 99.3
- Top frequency: 178.5
- Back frequency: 229.1
- All other peaks are all the harmonics.
Sound Samples
This was recorded in May 2024 at the La Conner Guitar Festival. The PA system was down. I recorded this using my cell phone. This guitar projected to the back of the room with no amplification.
Here is my attempt to be a guitar player.
